Student Review and Withdrawal

Trainees meet with the Director to discuss their progress at the end of the first semester each year, and at such other times as may be requested by either the Director or the student.

If a student’s progress is unsatisfactory, he/she may be asked to take additional private lessons at his/her additional expense, or to extend the length of the training. The Director retains the right to ask a student to withdraw from the course if the student’s behavior is disruptive to the learning experience of other class members, or if the student continues to fail to meet course requirements.

Absence and Lateness

Students are expected to arrive on time and ready for class. Lateness is recorded. When a student’s tardiness has accumulated to a total of four hours, this is counted as one absence.

Since learning to teach the technique requires hands-on instruction and participation with the other members of the class, absences are difficult to make up. Students are granted four absences each semester, and up to four additional absences per semester may be made up through taking private lessons with the Director or a faculty member. (The student is responsible for the cost of these lessons at the teacher’s regular fee.) If there are additional absences, however, these must be made up through attendance in the training after the three-year course is completed, or by attendance at another AmSAT-approved training course during the summer or other regularly scheduled vacations. (The Directors of both schools must approve this in advance. The student is responsible for the payment of any additional fees for this training.) Unused absences may not be carried over into the following year.

Leave of Absence

If a student must withdraw from class for a period greater than two weeks, the student will inform the director of this as much in advance as possible. The director and the student will meet to develop a plan for making up the missed classes to enable the trainee to continue in the program.
