Everyone wants to be right but no one stops to consider if their idea of right is right.

F. M. Alexander

Founded in 1987, the Alexander Technique School New England (ATSNE) is a comprehensive teacher-training program approved by the American Society of the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) and licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Education. The school is dedicated to training highly skilled professionals who are committed to becoming teachers of the Alexander Technique, and contributing to the growth and development of the profession.

The program covers all aspects of teacher training. The curriculum, developed over the past 20 years by founder and director, Missy Vineyard, emphasizes a systematic, step-by-step approach that enables students to succeed in achieving a high level of use of the self and hands-on skill. It includes self-study designed to help students experience and integrate the principles of the Alexander Technique in all aspects of their lives, and offers courses in musculo-skeletal anatomy, neurology, voice, and the mechanics of locomotion. The course also invites students to explore and understand skills of good pedagogy and interpersonal communication.

The course is approved by AmSAT and meets all requirements for teacher training courses as set down by the organization. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate from ATSNE. Upon satisfactorily completing all course requirements and receiving the Director's recommendation, graduates also receive certification from and are then eligible to apply to become members of AmSAT.

After completing the course, graduates are encouraged to remain in the area for an additional year of study known as the Internship. This is designed to further develop the new teacher's skill and to offer guidance in developing a teaching practice. (Click on Post-Graduate Study.)

Located in Amherst, Massachusetts, ATSNE is ideally situated to take advantage of the cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities in the beautiful Pioneer Valley and the "Five College Area." Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the school to attend class and meet with Missy Vineyard to discuss their educational and professional goals.

This school is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Education, license # 061110T
